can not start gnome 2.0 !

hello all,

I've compiled all the packages mentioned at
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/2.0.0/releases/gnome-2.0-desktop-final/
from source...

but when I start up gnome, the gnome-session manager reports a crash
and... crashes.

what would be the most probable cause?
