You said your problem was with audiofile. I checked Mandrake's cooker
distribution and it seems it's still using audiofile-0.2.2
(vicious-build-scripts builds 0.2.3). And there's not a single patch
applied in the rpm.

I suppose this problem with gcc 2.96 was introduced in audiofile 0.2.3.
You may want to edit bin/bootstrap.h and change the audiofile version to
0.2.2.

If you still have problems, I'd suggest installing Mandrake's gcc3.0
packages (you can find them in your favorite mandrake-devel mirror).
Don't forget to make them the default compiler (check with gcc
--version).
