Hello everyone,
I built GNOME 2 yesterday and here are my impressions on it.
I have uploaded the images mentioned below to
http://www.geocities.com/efgbr/gnome/.
Note: Where I don't give many details it's because I assume it's a known
problem. If you'd like more details on something, please let me know.
GTK+
- The default font size is too small. I copied gimp/themes/Default/gtkrc
to $HOME/.gtkrc-2.0 to fix this.
- The icons in the menus don't look good (compare the Copy and the Paste
icons in gnome1-gtk-menu_icons.png and gnome2-gtk-menu_icons.png)
gnome-core/
gsm:
- Loopback error when gnome-session is launched (gnome2-gsm-01.png).
btw, there's nothing wrong with /etc/hosts.
- I see a splash screen (yey!) and two new xterm windows appear (why?).
I don't have nautilus or any of the capplets installed but I expected at
least panel-2 to be started.
panel:
- Launchers and applets added don't come back when the panel is
restarted. (Compare gnome2-panel-01.png and gnome2-panel-02.png. Notice
the missing wanda and clock applets and gnome-terminal launcher).
- Resizing the panel doesn't work correctly (gnome2-panel-03.png).
gnome-terminal:
- Preferences dialog doesn't work, no apply button
(gnome2-terminal-01.png).
nautilus/
- failed build.
I haven't played much with gnome-utils and gnome-media yet, but
anyway...
gnome-utils/
- there are no icons in the menus of all apps (gnome2-utils-01.png).
- failed to build: gcolorsel, splash, gdialog and splash.
gnome-media/
- there are no icons in the menus of all apps (gnome2-media-01.png).
- failed to build: cddb-slave2, vu-meter and gnome-cd
- gmix and grecord complained during "make" about a missing .desktop
file, required by all-am.
grecord:
- missing "Play" and "Stop" icons (gnome2-grecord-01.png).
gmix: not really working for me. If I try to change any mixer settings
it will set them to 0 (that means that at least Mute is working ;)
(gnome2-gmix-01.png).
That's all for now.
Cheers,
- Evandro
