sound problem

Hi!
  I'm using gnome 1.4 with debian woody. And I have a problem with
sound... Under kde I can play mp3 and wav files and cd audio. But under
gnome I can play only cdaudio - no mp3 etc... And I don't get any err msg.
- I just doesn't play... 
Any ideas?
