OK. By the way, that should be Cancel or Quit rather than Close.

I didn't like Cancel too much because you have to start some process
before you can cancel it (in my understanding). So I chose Close because
it actually closes the application when clicked. I'm also fine with
Quit, though.

 Perhaps it would be a better approach to provide
methods that return the document to open instead of the current signals,
as GtkFileChooserDialog does. This way, the dialog also could easily be
hidden directly after having been run.

Whatever turns out to be simpler for our use, please. As long as the
dialog is hidden after something has been selected.
