Wow. That was rediculously fast! :-) Now I'm back to a delay on open and 
close, but I think it's a gnome issue- it's prompting me for an ssh key 
password (maybe because it needs it to access something in my recent 
history?) and it's working fine on a different account. Thanks a lot!
