I'm assuming this happens with gitg 0.2? In any case, can you please file a bug report at https://bugzilla.gnome.org? It will be easier to track the issue there.

In this day see a way to achieve that happen in normal use of the program.
Run "gitg -all", when you open the data begin to write and erase in the search bar.
Sooner or later it produces segmentation fault.
