[Gimp-user] gradient overlay

hello i am still learning this new gimp 2.18 smh, but i have been able to
use the overlay in the old gimp to make letters *chrome, patterns etc how
do i fix that without making a layer chrome it then overlay the layer to my
letters. and the colors i dont want to keep hitting bucket to make my color
i just want to bucket one color how do i fix that also.
