[Gimp-user] Layers will not edit separately

I use Gimp 2.10. When I duplicate a layer and modify that layer, say hue
chroma, there are no changes visible on my Mac desktop.  On my Mac laptop
the changes register.  However, these changes on the laptop are seen in
both layers.  What am I doing wrong?
