[Gimp-user] stock photo image with transparent background

I purchased an image from istock, it shows the checker pattern as if 
it's a transparent background, however gimp pulls it in as part of the 
image (in a single layer). The image gets downloaded as a JPG.


Anyone know how to properly deal with stock images with transparent  
backgrounds?
