[Gimp-user] Signature always white?

Hi,

I want to digitalize my signature. But when I insert it it is always white. Here
is what I do:

can it, black on white paper. 

Magic stick tool, take it.

remove background

add alpha channel

save as xcf. 

Insert as layer.

What to do better?
