IANAL, but...

Since GIMP is released under GPL, would it not be better to point to 
existing info and FAQs (e.g. http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html) 
rather than reinventing it?

Whatever is done, surely it needs to be carefully checked (possibly with 
legal advice) to ensure it's consistent with the actual conditions. For 
example (not an exhaustive review, just a quick glance through) taking a 
few items from the list below:

Does this not come with the proviso that source code is also made available?

Doesn't the license *require* that modified versions make clear that 
they are modified (Section 5a)?
