[Gimp-user] B&W negatives.

Apologies if this is all too obvious (except for me?), but is there a 
way to convert a black & white negative (scanned) to a positive, in Gimp 
(now, alas, using Windows 8, for the moment). I thought there was 
(perhaps it was distant memories of my Photoshop days, using Mac? :))?

Thanks in advance for any pointers.
