[Gimp-gui] Pan fails on laptop

My 13yo Acer laptop (Linux Mint 19.1) has a trackpad and left/right buttons on it. To pan, press and hold the Spacebar then left click & drag but nothing happens on my laptop but if I use a wireless mouse, it works fine.
