Yup...
$ fc-list | wc -l
9069
And that's only active fonts.
GIMP starts in under 5 seconds though, and this computer is several
years old. And since 99% of Microsoft Windows users are just game
players we should drop support for it :-) More seriously, i don't think
dropping support for text is a solution.
As Jehan wrote, GIMP doesn't have any full-time Windows developrs. The
GIMP work is done by volunteers, so if you know how to solve this
Windows-specific slow startup problem, become a volunteer!
Do you have your fonts on a network drive by the way? Is GIMP slow to
start only the first time after you installed or removed a font? Do you
have Monotype SkyFonts installed?
