Re: [Gimp-developer] Updating the website for all the broken download links?

Hi Sam,

As I mentioned in the past the offer is still open for me to QA the GIMP
website frontend for dead links and generate a report. I didn't ever get
approval from any of the core devs so I didn't run any front end tests.

Well offers may stay unreplied because a lot of people would "offer"
things, but these are just words until the said things are done. Not
saying that you are not really willing to help (neither are all others
proposing), only that it works better by just doing and that we are
unfortunately not enough to process, manage and follow individually
all the people saying they would hypothetically help.

So yes, we would definitely be interested by fixing any dead links, or
even updating any outdated text or link on the website. Actually even
better than a report, fixing the broken links directly would even be
better. My proposition for you would be to clone the
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gimp-web repository, and fix/clean all
the broken/wrong links there, then send us a patch on bugzilla, that
we would gladly push on master (you can also answer to this email with
your patch. I could review it and push it for you if all looks good).
:-)

I was actually myself interested into fixing broken links and even
already started running (but stopped at some point) linkchecker the
other day. But I had no time to go further. So your help doing it
would be most welcome!
So hopefully we'll see a patch soon?
Thanks!

Jehan

Hey all,

I've checked the testing website with my commit to fix the download
links to the new URLs. All looked ok, so I cherry-picked to master.
Would be great to have this rolled out to production, because right
now our website just gives a bunch of dead links for getting GIMP.
That's not good and could drive users away to go pick GIMP up from
some possibly bad source.

Also are all our mirror admins aware we changed the source of our main
download? Because if they have scripts to sync with our FTP, then they
will never relay properly our new releases.
Thanks!

Jehan
