Ok, more info to narrow down the scope a bit.
It looks like the gsettings aren't getting into the environment. In the gedit-3.22.0/data directory of the
source, I can view the org.gnome.gedit.gschema.xml file and can see the 'show-tabs-mode' key that the error
says it can't find.
When I print the existing keys, I get the keys that are in older versions of gedit:
gsettings list-keys org.gnome.gedit.preferences.ui
bottom-panel-visible
max-recents
statusbar-visible
notebook-show-tabs-mode
side-panel-visible
toolbar-visible
So...why aren't the new/updated keys getting added to the system when I 'make' or 'make install'? And how can
I force it work?
Thanks,
Tom

Subject: [Non-DoD Source] [gedit-list] Upgrading from gedit 3.10.4 to 3.22.0 runtime error
Hello all,
I am using SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 (x86_64) Update 1. It comes with GNOME 3.10.2 and gedit 3.10.4.
I'm trying to upgrade to 3.22.0. It is a manual process downloading the tarballs as the machine is not
connected to the internet, etc. All of the dependencies are the latest versions available. I've finally
successfully completed the build of gedit from 'gedit-3.22.0.tar.xz'. I installed it into the /opt directory,
so as not to interfere with the default version, using the following configure line:
./configure --disable-spell --prefix=/opt/gedit-3.22.0
When I try to run /opt/gedit-3.22.0/bin/gedit, I get the following error and it dumps out:
(gedit:4205): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema 'org.gnome.gedit.preferences.ui' does not contain a key
named 'show-tabs-mode'
Trace/BPT trap
Does anyone know what this could be and how to fix it? I'm thinking it has something with the default gedit
paths getting in the way, possibly? Or the version of GNOME? Or a configuration/settings file? I have
searched online and haven't found anything to help me with this last problem. I'm so close (I think)!
Thanks,
Tom
