Hi all,

I use Debian jessie, i.e., debian 8.0, which shipped the gedit 3.14.0
in its package repository.

But, when I using the gedit 3.14.0, I cann't find many
functions/buttons, say, the 'edit -- preferences' menubutton and the
'code comment' button, which I only easily found them previously.

Any hints?

In the top-bar at the top of the screen, there should an icon that says,
"gedit." If you click on that, you should see the preferences options.

If you need further help, the user help is reasonably up-to-date, and
you can read it by opening gedit and pressing F1 on your computer.
