Hmm, well doesn't that beat the purpose of an undo tab feature? :/ 

Am no developer but does gedit save the unsaved data to a buffer file? If so, undoing a tab could load that file :)

Easy: If it's new and wasn't saved to a file yet, it's gone. Anyone who creates a new document, types, and doesn't save it straight away does something wrong (PC could also crash) ;)
