Hi Anirudh,
I like your ideas, particularly number 2.
Are you planning on placing your git repository in a public place (e.g. on GitHub)?

I'd like to suggest a few new features/changes for gedit that would
not take up more than a few days to get it working. I'd like to start
working towards it and submit the required patches as well.
I am just posting it here so that if the community feels that these
features should/need not be implemented, you can ask me to stop.
1. Status Bar in Full Screen mode:
While going to Full Screen mode in gedit, we observe that, by hovering
over the top of the screen, the gedit-panel appears. It would look
cool and symmetric if the gedit-statusbar appears if we hover over the
bottom of the screen as well.
2. Text highlighting
As of now, when the cursor is near a bracket/brace/parenthesis, its
corresponding tag gets highlighted. It is difficult to spot it out
though. So, I'd suggest highlighting the text enclosed between them to
be highlighted in a lighter shade, as well.
