Hi Michael,
I don't use MediaWiki syntax but I found your idea interesting, so I
wrote a syntax highlighting (released under GPLv3 or any later version)
for MediaWiki code. I put the file on my website. See this address:
http://www.jpfleury.net/gedit-mediawiki
and download the archive attached to this page. The installation for
GNU/Linux is written in the archive, but it's very easy:
1) Make sure that the path exists:
mkdir -p ~/.local/share/gtksourceview-2.0/language-specs/
2) Put the file "mediawiki.lang" (which is in the archive) on the folder
"language-specs".
3) Open gedit (or restart it) and choose the MediaWiki language.
