[gedit-list] Starting new process

I'd like to use gedit as the comment editor for a command-line source
code control system. When the source code control process launches the
editor, it waits for the editor process to end to know when to read the
edited comment (this is all pretty common). Unfortunately there seems to
be no way to force gedit start a new process when one is already
running. Other editors have flags like --solo for this purpose. Any hope
of getting something like that in gedit?
