If you have an updated GNOME installation it should be really easy to
install gedit.

It should, but probably this feature requires some tests. Please, lemme
know if you have problem with it.
Probably printing BIDI scripts has some problems that need to be fixed.

Yes, you can select one of the installed gtk+ input method.
Use the right-click popup menu to change the current input method.
