I have geary-0.12.4-lp151.1.4.x86_64 installed from OpenSUSE 15.1's
repository, running in Xfce 4.12. Geary's documentation states that
the Preferences window should show me an "Enable spell checking"
option, but it does not.
The bad news is that Geary 0.12 is obsolete and unsupported, the good
news is that this has been fixed for a long time in more recent
versions. :)
When you upgrade to the latest version (3.36.1), you'll find a spell
checker button in the composer, that allows you to select one or more
languages to check when writing email.
