Re: [Geary] Heads up: WebKit2 port landing on master this weekend

Hey all,

So the WK2 port has landed on master. Better late than never, I guess? There's a list of known bugs here: <http://tinyurl.com/wk2-fallout>, if you find something new that is wrong and is not on that list, or especially if Geary crashes, please file a new bug: <https://bugzilla.gnome.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=geary>. Also feel free to look into fixes for these. :)

You shouldn't notice too many changes, but the composer has received a few updates, so feedback welcome!

To build master from now on, you will need to have WebKitGTK 2.10 (or higher) and its development files installed. For most recent distros this is pretty easy to achieve by installing the appropriate packages:

Fedora 23/24 and other RPM based distros:
 - webkitgtk4-devel

Debian, Ubuntu >= 16.04 and derivatives:
 - libwebkit2gtk-4.0-dev

Note to Debian 8 (stable/jessie) people: You'll need to enable the stable backports repo to get a recent enough version of WebKitGTK: <https://backports.debian.org/Instructions/>

One last thing, if you get errors switching bewteen master and the geary-0.11 branch, you may need to remove the "build" dir and "configure && make" again.

Do let is know how it works out for you!

Hey all,

I've managed to get the WebKit2 port[0] to a state where it's basically feature-identical with current master, so I plan to polish off the rest of the immediate TODO list over this weekend and merge it.

This is a substantial change, so all testing and feedback welcome. The aim I think will be to get 0.12 released with WK2 before the end of Feb.

If you have any patches you want landed before hand to avoid having to rebase them off the WK2 port to get committed, please let me know and I'll try to get onto them this weekend as well.

Ta!
