Re: [Geary] Recurring events for "Day of the week"

Thanks for the clarification, I now understand the difference. However, I still think "Day of the week" is quite missleading. I would suggest something that gives a hint that it is a weekday relative to the month, since Day of the week sounds like "Every Monday". However, since I'm not a native english speaker I will not try to re-phrase this for you, since it will probably not be an improvement :)

I feel your pain.  iCalendar's recurring rules are not well-named, and although I did some looking and thinking about it, I could not find or come up with better wording for these various options.

One feature I like in Google Calendar is that it will summarize in plain human language what the rule will do.  I would like to add this to California as well: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=732930

"Day of the Week" means the event will recur on the same day of the week of the same week number of the month that the start date falls on.  In other words, if I select August 15 for a "Day of the Week" event recurring every 1 month, the event happens on Aug 15 (third Friday of Aug), Sep 19 (third Friday of Sep), Oct 17 (third Friday of Oct), and so on.

"Day of the Month" means an event on Aug 15 will recur on Sep 15, Oct 15, and so on.

I welcome any suggestions for better wording.  I do believe the summary ticket (above) will help alleviate the pain here.

Hi,

when I translated Geary to Swedish I tested the functionality and found the recurring events to be a little confusing. I'm not sure if it is a bug or just me not getting how it is supposed to work.
When I create an event and click "Repeats..." I get to the recurring events dialog. I enable this and select "Repeats: Day of the week". Now it says "Every: 1 month".  I don't understand what this is supposed to do? If I'm interested in the day of the week, like Monday, wouldn't it say "Every: 1 week". But then what is the difference between this and "Weekly"?

So, can someone explain what the "Day of the week" is supposed to do and how that is different from Weekly/Day of the month.
