[gdm-list] Configure and connect to wireless and VPN before login

Hi,

I'd like to be able to configure and connect to an unknown wireless network (and subsequently a VPN) from within GDM. I've looked around the net and haven't found much aside from someone asking much the same question to the network manager list. It seems nm-applet can successfully start and appear in the top-right in gdm 2.x. However I'd like to be able to use gdm 3.x. I can get nm-applet to run and auto-connect to a pre-configured wireless network but I'd like to be able to use the applet to be able to connect to a new network.
