Hi,
I'm having some issues with GDM which I've posted about on my linux distro's forums but got no replies. I'm hoping somebody here can help.
I'm unable to log in to Gnome-3.6.3 via GDM. When I enter my password at the user list screen, the screen goes blank and GDM restarts. I'm attaching a log including debug messages. It appears that one of the slave processes tells the session to exit i.e. it's not crashing. The corresponding lines are:
138 Jun 22 16:35:41 [gdm-simple-slave] DEBUG(+): GdmSlave: ConsoleKit org.freedesktop.DBus.GLib.UnmappedError.CkVtMonitorError.Code0 raised: _ GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.GLib.UnmappedError.CkVtMonitorError.Code0: Session is already active___
139 Jun 22 16:35:41 [gdm-simple-slave] DEBUG(+): GdmSlave: unable to activate session: /org/freedesktop/ConsoleKit/Session27_
And that appears to trigger a shutdown:
147 Jun 22 16:35:41 [gdm-simple-slave] DEBUG(+): GdmCommon: sending signal 15 to process -8240_
148 Jun 22 16:35:41 [gnome-session] DEBUG(+): GdmSignalHandler: handling signal 15_
149 Jun 22 16:35:41 [gnome-session] DEBUG(+): GdmSignalHandler: Found 1 callbacks_
150 Jun 22 16:35:41 [gnome-session] DEBUG(+): GdmSignalHandler: running 15 handler: 0x41ac8e_
151 Jun 22 16:35:41 [gnome-session] DEBUG(+): Got callback for signal 15_
152 Jun 22 16:35:41 [gnome-session] DEBUG(+): GsmManager: Logout called_
153 Jun 22 16:35:41 [gnome-session] DEBUG(+): GsmShell: Connected to the shell_
154 Jun 22 16:35:41 [gnome-session] DEBUG(+): GsmManager: requesting logout_
155 Jun 22 16:35:41 [gnome-session] DEBUG(+): GsmManager: ending phase RUNNING__
156 Jun 22 16:35:41 [gnome-session] DEBUG(+): GsmManager: starting phase QUERY_END_SESSION__
... etc
I'm unable to understand what is causing this. To make matters stranger, I'm able to log into the gnome-shell by running startx from a virtual terminal, and then 'gnome-session' from within the x session. I can also log in successfully using GDM if I create a new user.
Furthermore, I export my home directory via NFS, and my other PC (which has an identical software config) can log into gnome with the same user.
Many thanks in advance,
Luciano
