What version of GDM are you using? One of these commands should tell you what version you are using:

$ gdmflexiserver --command=VERSION
$ gdmflexiserver --version

Note the syntax of specifying the Xserver command in the
[server-Standard] section of the configuration file only works with
GDM 2.20 and earlier.  If you are using a newer version of GDM, you
must use ConsoleKit configuration interfaces to configure this.
