I am attempting to build a machine with several quasi-independent
local X terminals which all log in automatically with different
users.

I have four video cards installed, each with two outputs.
With a number of usb mice and keyboards, and using gdm i have
been able to set up 8 independent displays with their own
mouse and keyboards - all running thanks to GDM's [servers]
section.

The trick is that i want to have all of them auto-login.
i have made a shell script which creates the username based
on the display number using the %d substitution.

The problem is that only display :0 logs in on its own.
(the other displays work perfectly... just manually)

With GDM in debug mode i can see that the second (and third
etc) display calls the script correctly. similarly, if i
add lines to the script to output to a log file, i can
see that the script is being called correctly for each
screen.

There are wiffs here and there that only the first local
screen will autologin - but nothing explicit
(see "AllowRemoteAutoLogin" for such a mention,
http://www.gnome.org/projects/gdm/docs/2.8/configuration.html)

Certainly, when i change the script to return nothing
for display :0, and names for the others - nothing
logs in!

I would appreciate any feedback.
