Hi,
I'm having a stability problem on my HP-Compaq NC4200 notebook running
Lenny Debian GNU/Linux.
Each time I power on the computer it regularly starts all previous
services in its runlevel but it hangs with a black screen when starting
X, and it doesn't respond to any command, not even with SysReq Alt+Print
+B, and all I can do is to switch the computer off.
This happens occasionally two or more times, then it starts regularly.
It doesn't matter the kernel I use, the Debian official kernel or my
custom kernel are the same.
The X server always starts fine running the computer in text mode and
then "startx".
In the relevant /var/log/Xorg.0.log I can see that most of the times it
hangs soon after loading the intel chip driver
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//intel_drv.so
so I should guess there's something wrong with this (release of) driver
and/or this release of gdm.
My graphic chip is an Intel 915 GM, Xorg version is 1:7.3+18,
xserver-xorg-video-intel version is 2:2.3.2-2+lenny5, gdm version is
2.20.7-4.
Could anyone give me some kind of help?
Thank you in advance.
