Re: [gdm-list] gdmflexiserver and automatic login

Philippe:

Look in the code daemon/slave.c and search for GDM_KEY_AUTOMATIC_LOGIN
to see the relevant code. Note that you can also set the automaticlogin
user to be a script (using the "|" syntax - refer to the manual). Some
people have said that they would like to be able to make such an
autologin script generate different usernames based on $DISPLAY, etc.
So this is another use case where it would be handly to support
autologin on all displays.

Might be nice to file a bug about this at http://bugzilla.gnome.org in
the "gdm" category. Want to do this for me?

If you find the code that needs to be tweaked in order to make this
work, then it might be nice to add a new configuration option so people
can turn on this feature for all displays.

Note TimedLogin has a similar issue, which you can read about here:

  http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=336174

This code hasn't been tested yet but might be useful to understand how
to change the GDM code.

Also note, if you do modify the code that GDM 2.19 has been changed
quite a lot so I don't recommend basing your patch on an earlier version
of GDM if possible.

I would like to login automatically when running gdmflexiserver, instead of getting the classical login banner. I have configured GDM for automatic login on startup, but when I launch gdmflexiserver to open a new session as the same user, then I get the banner. I think I can understand quite well the reasons of such behaviour, but isn't there any way to work around it ?

I looked through gdmflexiserver options and commands addressed to gdm, but I found nothing for that. If there is no clean way, is there at least any file or variable to change so that GDM still believes it is the first login ?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Philippe
