Todd:
There is also this bug report talking about ESD having problems working
well with GDM.
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=333433
There's also a freezing bug reported if using ALSA. Are you using ALSA
as well since this sounds more like your problem:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=360983
I'm not sure what the problem might be here. Perhaps ESD or ALSA is opening
the sound device exclusively and causing other programs who want to use
ESD or ALSA to have problems?
In the GDM configuration you can specify what program will be used
to play sounds. I suspect the problem is with esound or whatever
program is being used to play the sounds, and not really in GDM.
Brian
I got a little issue, I hope is a little problem.
I have latest (2.18.2-non SVN) version of the display manager.
Recently I just added sounds for the desktop with the sound
control-panel. Unfortunately esound began conflicting with a couple
items so I removed it. When I logged in following doing this gdm
freezes. Since then I've reinstalled esound unticked desktop sounds,
removed esound... I got everything perfect once more, login works,
yet there is a slight (15 to 20 seconds) delay over before.
I'm wondering if this is a configuration related issue. I'd like to
try and use new gdm preferences but am unsure which ones they are.
Got any thoughts?
