I've just written some code to allow the gdmgreeter to be used as the login splash screen (reducing the number of screen transitions the user sees during login). The code is highly experimental but generally works OK. I've filed a bug here: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=355190 I'd like feedback from anyone who cares. I'd like to fix this code up so that it's good enough to be included in 2.18 enabled by default. Please reply in the bug report as it's easier for interested people to keep track of the conversation there. Cheers
