First of all, I wanted to thank all of you for your interest and
support for GDM. I have been acting as maintainer of GDM now for
just over a year and I think a lot of exciting improvements have
happened in that time. Mainly, GDM is better integrated with
GNOME with the project website now hosted at gnome.org, the mail
list moved to the more visible gdm-list gnome org, and GDM is now
better following the GNOME release process.
I have finally updated the GDM project website with the latest
GDM 2.13 docs, which has some nice improvements over the 2.8
version of the docs. You'll now find separate Security and
Troubleshooting sections. I think the new documentation is
much more clear and complete, so I would recommend using the
2.13 documentation as reference. The 2.13 docs should be clear
about what features are specific to newer releases of GDM, so
it can be used even if you are using an older version of GDM.

There are lots of cool new features and bugfixes coming in GDM
2.14 which you can try out in the latest 2.13 release if you
like. It would be great to get more feedback from people. The
usability of GDM has been improved and looks more modern. Also,
for those interested in getting involved, there are still quite
a few bugs and enhancement requests in bugzilla that you can
check out. I'm happy to help answer any questions you may have
if you want to tackle one.
Aside from that, I notice that there are quite a few exciting
GDM themes at http://art.gnome.org/ and was thinking that it
would be neat to see some new themes added to GDM CVS so they
get installed along with GDM. Currently GDM only has the
circles and happygnome themes, which I do not think show off
GDM's theming abilities as well as some other themes out there.
Any suggestions? Please only suggest themes that are clearly
released under a free license.
Thanks,
Brian
