My only point is that this is the same situation with a
password prompt today for a traditional login. That's
necessary, because gdm can't get an event when
you walk out the door :-). Clearly a smartcard should
in theory allow you to perform a cleaner interaction,
since an event could be synthesized upon card removal.
Alas PAM won't help you here. It would be nice to have
an async way to cancel a conversation function. The
downside is that all PAM clients would have to be prepared
to handle this, which would make the code for writing a PAM
client much more complex.
