Which version are you using?  There were 2 crashes fixed recently in the
XDMCP code, either try 2.4.1.6 or 2.4.4.0 (the gnome 2.4 version).  Both
version should compile easily with any version of gnome 2.0 and beyond.  Also
there were security issues before 2.4.1.6 so you should upgrade anyway.
2.4.4.0 had many updates to XDMCP that should make it more robust.
