Is there a way to determine local/remote login?

Hi All,

When a user logs in remotely from a Solaris machine to mercury machine, 'L' acts
as Backspace. This is because gdm loads the Xmodmap file, which maps keycode 22
to backspace (22 is the keycode for 'L' in Solaris).

To overcome this problem, the Xmodmap file needs to be loaded conditionally
depending on whether its a remote login or a local login.
Initially, we had thought of using the DISPLAY variable to determine this. But
this is not a reliable solution since this variable can be tweaked.

Could you please tell me if there is any other way to determine if the login is
a remote login or a local login?

Regards
Muktha
