I'm running it from inittab. I thought it might just be a font server
thing too, although I couldn't understand why it would be different for
gdm2. But when I logged in as root, started the font server manually
and then tried to kick off gdm2, it still didn't work :/ (Whereas doing
the same thing caused xdm and gdm1 to work as expected, where previously
they had failed if I just logged in as root and tried to start them
straight away).

Anyway, I'm following George's advice for now and just installing it
where Red Hat expects it to be... we'll see if that makes a
difference...

Cheeri,
Calum.
