Trouble applying gconf changes imediately

Hello:

If I do a:

gconftool-2 --type string --set /desktop/gnome/interface/font_name "Sans 12"

with my regular user, changes occur imediately.

If I do it via root, with: sudo -u "regularuser" gconftool-2 ...

Then changes will only occur after a logout and login from gnome.

I'm on Fedora 10. On Fedora 9 it worked.

Any help?
