i have written a perl script to change the background using gconftool-2;
however, it is not stable due to permissions of use with gconftool-2.
gconftool-2 -s /desktop/gnome/background/picture_filename
\"/home/elie/pics/$dapic\" -t string
works if i shutdown gconfd first. the error i usually get is that there
is a read-only value for picture_filename in the begining of my path.
--get-default-source gives /etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults
i thought perhaps $HOME/.gconf.path might solve this problem. is this
true?
if so, i have not found a sample .gconf.path file to copy from. i looked
at the gconf-admin site and many others.
i hope to get your help.
thanks.
ps. if my perl program is wanted let me know. it takes a dir, creates an
array, gets random picture and changes background in a cron once an hour.
kind of what KDE does on it's own.
