Hi,

I think you're seeing a bug I recently fixed in unstable, where if 
you have a value set for a key, it "hides" the fact that a schema
exists for that key. So you can still get the value you set, but you
can't get the schema name and stuff like "gconftool --short-docs /key" 
won't work.

Does that sound likely? 

I can backport the fix from unstable if it's impacting people.
