Also, just a disclaimer: 2.21.x is the unstable branch, and currently
undergoing quite some changes.

Hmm, no mention of xproto here. Implicit dep pulled in by libxft.pc?
Seems strangely familiar...

What does 'locate xproto.pc' return? In case your slocate database isn't
reasonably uptodate, check the xorg-x11-proto-devel RPM, if it contains
it.
Also, what does 'locate xproto.h' return?
