This is weird.
Let me take a guess: You downloaded the tarball as your regular user,
and then went ahead building GARNOME as *root*, using the default
gar.conf.mk unaltered.
Do *NOT* build as root! Please read the README, carefully.
You will not be able to use the build installed inside /root anyway,
without severely compromising your systems security.

Did you build using 'make install' or 'make paranoid-install'?
