Problems building pango on 2.18.1

Hello :)

Seen this issue once while googling for it but no resolution. Here's
what I am getting while building pango

/opt/garnome/lib/libcairo.so: undefined reference to
`FT_GlyphSlot_Embolden'

Sure enough, I ldd /opt/garnome/lib/libcairo.so and I get
