GTK+ install fails for Garnome 2.14.2.1 and 2.15.3 under SuSE 10.1 x86_64

There's some kind of hitch in the make-install process that won't let
garnome go any further under SuSE 10.1 x86_64.

The problem is that 32-bit libraries instead of the proper 64-bit ones
are being returned to the program gtk-query-immodules-2.0, which
should never have been compiled in the first place, as
gtk-query-immodules-2.0-64 should have been made instead.

Why does garnome / gtk not detect that SuSE is a 64-bit build
environment and make the proper version? i'm confused, i can't find
anywhere in the source code where it tells it to make this program.
here's the resulting error output, thanks for any help..
