Daemons die during login

Hi all,
I just compiled the latest gnome 2.16 beta 1, all went fine, but I got
problems during the login process . The dbus services don't start
(gnome-settings-daemon, gnome-vfs-daemon, etc ..). After further
investigation I've found out that the daemons die with the message "GTK
Warning - Cannot open display". Has anybody a clue about that?
