Actually, it looks like you've got a really old, really new, or badly
versioned copy of pilot-link installed. 

Instead of something sane like 0.11.5 (which sed would cut into
MAJOR=11, MINOR=5), you've probably got a version that looks like
0.12.0.pre2, which sed can't handle correctly, hence the error.

GARNOME likes to have version 0.11.15 of pilot-link installed, mileage
may very significantly if you try and use a newer version.
