I think there is something very wrong with:

http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/src/gst-ffmpeg/gst-ffmpeg-0.8.5.tar.bz2

Attached is a the output from:

	diff -r --brief gst-ffmpeg-0.8.5 gst-ffmpeg-cvs

Ignoring the lines containing:
	* CVS
	* .cvsignore

you can see that there are significant differences.
