Garnome and Cygwin

I am using Garnome to compile Gnome on my Cygwin host.  However my first few attempts failed becuase test.art.o:testart.c complained of undefined reference to '_art_*'.
 
I have already found a identical problem reported. http://www.mail-archive.com/garnome-list gnome org/msg00621.html, but the solution is not meationed. 
 
Any help would be apprecated.
